Recipe Ideas–a week’s worth of Hamburger Ideas

When you find a sale, buy quite a bit, split packages into 1lb parts, put in ziploc quart freezer bags, holds 1lb perfect, flatten it so it thaws evenly.  Then throw them in the freezer.  When you decide on a recipe throw a bag in the frig the night before.  Or thaw 2-3 hours on counter, or even thaw in microwave.  All these meals are pretty quick to put together, on the one’s you throw in oven, you can prep it night before, then throw in oven when you get home.

When you are trying to be healthy you can use ground turkey or chicken in the place of the hamburger.

Sloppy Joe’s, can of Manwich.  This is another we grew up on but have some how gotten away from.

Spagetti & Meatballs/meat Sauce.  Meatballs, 1lb beef, 1 egg, and 1/2 cup bread crumbs(no bread crumbs, use crackers or stove top stuffing mix-crushed, good flavor also, fry up in pan)

Taco’s-remember to save on Fresh Tomatoes, use a can of Tomatoes and add to meat when you add Taco seasoning

Easy Salsbury Steak–1lb beef, 3/4 cup stove top, 1/2 cup water, 1 egg, 1/4 cup chopped onion, blend, make patties, pan fry to brown, then add a can of brown gravy and 1/2 can of water, cover and simmer, serve with Mashed potatoes.

Meatloaf, can be the same as sals steak mixture but put it in loaf pan, add some ketsup, and cook at 350 degrees.

Mitza Pizza, seasoned hamburger in squared glass pan, can of mushrooms, drained on top, then pour spag sauce over that, cook at 350 degrees for 45 minutes, add mozz cheese at end and melt.

Shmalotome(sp?, I grew up in WI, that is what we called it), brown meat with onion and celery, add can of tomoatoes, cooked elbow mac and then ketsup to taste, I know it sounds crazy, believe this or not, it is really good.  We grew up on this, hadn’t made it for years, made it the other night, everyone loved it.

I said a week’s worth but let me add another,

Chili-brown meat, onions, celery, add can of tomatoes, can of chili beans and for something different add a can of baked beans, makes a little sweeter chili, different and very tasty, I also like to use V8 juice or bloody mary mix if you have it around the house, I like to have V8 in my pantry in case a recipe needs extra “juice”.

Let me know if some of these directions are lacking, I have them in my head and just typed them in.  I know there are a ton of other ideas out there, add yours to the comments.

  1. Here is another quick n easy recipe with hamburger and my kids love it!! Season your hb like you would for a meat loaf, form any type of shape out of the hb; fun for your kids to help and give a few ideas…. after shaping spread cream of mushroom (chicken or celery whatever you like) then stick tater tots all over the top of your shape, press half way down in to the meat bake, at 350 degrees until hamburger done. Tater tots will be crispy and fun to eat!!!! Add catsup afterwards if wanted!!!!
